Northend United 6 Glendowan 0  Saturday 2nd March 2024

Another impressive performance for the Agnew Michell and Cairns sponsored 2011s this week against a well drilled Glendowan side. As always, these two clubs show upmost respect and the friendly nature of our games is evident every time. Great coaches and players. The game got off to a flying start when Gordon ran on to a lovely ball from Barr after 2 mins beating the keeper only to see his effort hit the post. Another flurry of chances for both sides battling it out across the pitch for a good 15 minute spell. Devlin in nets had to be alert for the long ball beating our defence a number of times caught firm and safe. Young Cairns had his work cut out marking a powerful striker but the training paid off and he stood toe to toe in every tackle and winning a number of headers. As northend settled into a rhythm Gordon opened up the scoresheet after 25 minutes chasing a loose ball when others would have left it he nipped it in followed by Casley hammering home a rebound from 25 yards. Half time 2-0

Right from the whistle northend controlled most of the play. Senan Hughes into a forward position was dominating with no less than 4 shots in few minutes and a well worked corner volleyed at the back post by Hughes. Both wingers having been marked thus far started to find space and it was Martin who took advantage to drill home a solo effect from the left. Barr also got into the action and from 20 yards found the top right of the net, a fantastic strike. Not to be outdone Gordon picked up two loose balls and slotted home both to seal his hatrick. Another training ground play with Duffin drilling a corner hard and low into the front post finding the back of the net from a rebound.
Although a high score line it doesn’t take away how hard these players had to work against a very good Glendowan side. Special mention to their goalkeeper who battled through a first half injury and made some excellent saves.
Again great to see hard work at training paying off. Next seasons aim to move into Premier division is on track. Full time 8-0

Northend United 6 Hillsborough Boys Tigers 1  Saturday 24th February 2024

It was a great result for the Agnew, Mitchell and Cairns sponsored 2011s this week with 13 goals in a Cup clash with Hillsborough Tigers. A change of tempo at training in recent weeks and all players fighting for their place on match day gave the team a real boost this Saturday. Olly Hector opened the scoresheet within 5 minutes serviced by the midfield 4 of Barr, Cassley, McClintock and Duffin slipping out a wide pass for the winger to thump home. It took another 10 minutes for the team to settle into the game testing their opponents and winning a penalty which young Gordon slotted home. Some great passages of play opened up the field and again Hector slotted home his second after 20 minutes. The defensive line up of King, Adams, Cairns and Mitchell came under fire a few times in the half but their confidence on the ball thwarted any danger from Hillsborough and with Devlin scooping up everything that came his way the back was solid. Half time 2-0

With confidence high Northend dominated the rest of the game with a total of 4 goals from Gordon 3 from Hector, 3 from Cassley, 2 from Martin and 1 from Barr. Goals aside it was great to see how a confident well drilled side can give a performance like they did. Not every week this happens but it shows the potential this group of players have. Keep up the hard work and remember to be confident in your own abilities.

Player of the Match: Olly Hector – his goals and work rate stood out today.

Northend United 4 Hillsborough Boys Jets 0   Saturday 3rd February 2024

A fantastic start for the blues who were on the front foot from the start. Campbell, Adams, Mitchell and King started at the back, and did not have much to do as from CDM position up Northend kept control with the tigers not seeing much of the ball.
On the right Cassley, who has been playing superbly for the last 3 games, took his mantle of terrorising the Hillsborough left while providing some brilliant through balls for the front 2 of Hughes and Gordon.
Cairns has maybe found his niche as defensive midfield for the team and was rock solid with probably the most tackles for the game. Barr at attacking midfield and Martin on the left wing pushed forward continually but to no avail for the first 15 minutes, as the opposition keeper pulled off some great saves. Half time 0-0

With King being replaced by Duffin and Barr being replaced by McClintock saw another surge by Northend and this time it paid off with an assist by McClintock and a goal by Gordon, who probably has surpassed the late teens on Goals scored this season!
The blues capitalised on this momentum and another quick turn by Gordon saw the ball hit the net with the Tigers now shellshocked. Although the opposite team tried as they may they could not breakdown the stubborn defence of especially Adams and Mitchell who had a flawless game each, this is obviously not possible if Devlin had not proved why he is meant to be between the sticks, controlling the box and keeping a clean sheet with some great saves.
McClintock paired again to provide an assist this time for young Cameron who had come on for Cairns and came in at the back post to make sure the ball went in fully. A further onslaught provided Burgoyne who came on just before the 40th minute to get a touch on the final goal going in.
4-0 not really a true reflection on how tough the game was but proved Northend U13’s took their chances well and show excellent teamwork and resilience to come through as victors- forward to the Semi’s we go!! Full time 4-0

Northend United 3 Oxford Sunnyside Colts 3   Saturday 27th January 2024

Another great week of football for the Agnew, Mitchell and Cairns sponsored 2011s. With weather hampering training and matches the past 4 weeks it was great to get two games in a row. Northend started well dominating play throughout the pitch. The back 3 of Campbell, Mitchell and Cairns working the ball from the back finding the midfield with ease quickly seen Hector shoot down the right wing and cross a slick ball into the box finding left winger Martin to slot home our first. It wasn’t long before the midfield of Barr, Duffin, Cameron finding gaps played some really good passing football slipping the ball in for Cassley to beat the keeper. 2/0. It was a period of 15 minutes where no less than 10 attempts on goal with a further brilliant team goal seen Gordon win the ball and set up Cassley for his second. With 3 goals in such quick succession and within the first half confidence was high but lack of training legs tired. McClintock, King and Burgoyne on and some positional changes the game settled into a real good battle. Both sides went back and forth with Devlin pulling off a number of great saves. An unlucky bounce goal bound seen a fantastic clearance attempt by Campbell who chased all the way unfortunately rolled over the line. 3/1 half time. The second half again seen both teams battle it out and well done the Oxford stand in keeper having the best game ever pulling off some great saves. Duffin’s free kick heading top corner only to be denied by a fingertip and Gordon beating 3 players and the keeper only to see the keeper flick it off the line at the last second. Whilst we took the game to try new things, different positions we unfortunately conceded 2 further goals but this is all part of the long term development of each player. A lot to take from this game and part of the rebuild for next season. Full time 3-3

Player of the Match: Olly Hector – showed great determination to push down the right and had the ability to deliver a great ball leading to our first goal

Northend United 5 Hillsborough Boys Tigers 1   Saturday 13th January 2024

After the Christmas break the team was eager to go and started off with high pressure and possession football. Cahal Gordon scoring after 5 minutes settled the team down with not much happening for Hillsborough as the defence of Campbell, Mitchell, Adams and King and returning keeper Devlin held strong.
Hector and Martin on the wings continued to push up with Cairns and Barr controlling midfield meant that Cassley was able to double our lead after another 6 minutes with a great goal.
Gordon and Cassley continued to terrify the defence opposition and scored 2 more before the half time whistle blew. Half time 4-0

Changes at the break was Hector (injured), Campbell and Carins for Cameron, Burgoyne and McClintock all got stuck in the same manner to deny a now more determined Hillsborough side, whose pressing paid off after 10 minutes for their goal.
Northend then settled again and proved dogged to break down. Duffin came on to shore up the team and had some good chances, Sonny Barr produced a fantastic run from midfield to score the final goal of the match 15 minutes before the end. A deserved victory. Full time 5-1
